Rohit Sharma He will miss Mumbai Indians (MI)'s upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 16 due to a hamstring injury.
The injury, which he suffered during MI's previous game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is expected to be clarified by the team management in the pre-match press conference on April 15. For now, it has been confirmed that the former MI captain will miss the match against PBKS.
Rohit was injured during the second innings of the match against RCB and he had to retire hurt in the sixth over. MI ultimately lost the match, their third defeat in four matches this season.
Despite the setback, Rohit has been in solid form, scoring 137 runs in four matches at an average of 45.67 and a strike rate of 165.06. His absence leaves a significant gap at the top-order, and MI may consider bringing in Quinton de Kock as a similar opening batsman. Alternatively, Suryakumar Yadav could be promoted from No. 3 to open with Ryan Rickelton.
