'The goal is to lift the trophy' – Prafulla Hinge eyes the prize after impressive IPL debut

Vidarbha fast bowler Prafulla Hinge He has become a topic of discussion since his debut with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He bowled brilliantly in the powerplay, where he took four wickets in a 57-run win against the in-form Rajasthan Royals.

His biggest achievement in the match came when he took three wickets in the very first over. Prafulla dismissed the in-form talented Vaibhav Suryavanshi on the very first ball of the innings as he top-edged a short ball which was safely taken by Ishan Kishan. Dhruv Jurel then hit a boundary onto his stumps, before Luan-Dre Pretorios hit one straight to deep-backward square leg.

Taking three wickets for one run in his very first over, a feat never achieved before in the IPL. In his next over, he also took the wicket of Riyan Parag, taking Royals' score to 9/5 in the third over of the game. The 24-year-old finished with figures of 4/34 and won the Player of the Match award.

Speaking on his preparation and understanding of the game, Hinz explained how he approaches the game and is always thinking about what he will do in a particular situation in any match.

“I didn't do any special preparation. Whenever I watch a match, I ask myself, 'What will I do in that situation? How will I bowl?' So, even if it's a World Cup match and I envision bowling to the opposition's best batsman, I think through my approach. This has always been my thought process; It keeps me constantly thinking about the situation of the match,” Hinz said on JioHotstar after the match against Royals.

Signed by Sunrisers for his base price of Rs 30 lakh in the mini auction ahead of the 2026 season, Hinge is slowly establishing himself in the Vidarbha domestic set-up. He has played ten first-class matches and taken 27 wickets.

Hinz also revealed his goals for the season, with the main aim being to win the IPL trophy and contribute for his team in the process. He also expressed his desire to win the best fielder award by taking spectacular catches in the tournament.

Hinz said, “My first goal is definitely to win and lift the trophy. Secondly, if I get a chance, I will try to win as many matches as I can for my team and give my 100 percent. Also, I would love to hold one of the best catches in the IPL and aim for the best fielder award.”

Hinge's bowling helped Sunrisers take the lead in the first game after scoring 216/6 in the second innings. They bowled out the Royals for 159, with co-debutant Saqib Hussain also taking four wickets.
