sanju samson Finally scored a brilliant century for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026. He remained unbeaten on 115 off just 56 balls as Chennai Super Kings posted 212/2 in their 20 overs after being put in to bat by Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In a heartfelt moment after his explosive innings, Samson credited his innings to Ravi Shastri, who was present as the broadcaster.
Samson told Shastri in a mid-innings flash interview with the broadcasters, “Yes, sir, it feels great to thank you. I think you are a lucky person for me to meet before every game, so please come to every game sir.”
Sanju Samson came into the IPL as one of the most talked-about batsmen in the tournament for two reasons. First, his trade with the Super Kings, which saw Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran go straight to Rajasthan Royals, and second was his form in the T20 World Cup, where he scored 321 runs in five matches to clinch the Player of the Tournament award in India's victorious campaign.
He started the IPL campaign with three low scores, but finally broke the situation with a century. He talked about the doubts present in his mind regarding the score despite his performance in the T20 World Cup.
Samson said, “Honestly, I think no matter how in form you are, no matter how many matches you have won for your country, some failures definitely create a lot of doubts in your mind. But I just wanted to go back and do my core work and believe in myself and really stick to my scoring pattern. So a lot of thoughts came, I think should I try harder in the beginning or should I change my gameplan. But I definitely wanted to stick to what was working and luckily it came out beautifully today.”
Samson made a brilliant partnership of 113 runs off 67 balls with Aysuh Mhatre, who scored 59 runs off 36 balls. This partnership was the platform for CSK's innings, before late fireworks from Shivam Dubey pushed them above the 200-mark
“I had a great partnership with Ayush. I think he's a great young player. I think I really enjoyed batting with him,” Samson said.
This is Samson's first 50-plus score for the Super Kings, and his fourth century in the IPL. His innings is the first century in the 2026 Indian Premier League.
