The young LSG batsman made headlines after playing a fearless innings under pressure against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens with a brilliant unbeaten inning. However, rather than being greeted with thunderous applause, Mukul's first reaction was extremely personal.
After the match, Mukul said, “I dedicate this to my father. Even before marriage, he always thought of making his son a cricketer. My father's dream was that his son should play cricket.”
While the cricket world celebrated the emergence of a new talent, his father Dalip Choudhary remained cool and down to earth and offered a reality check despite the growing hype.
“It's normal. There is no excitement. Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare, Mushtaq Ali and IPL… he has to play for the country now. It's no other option for him,” Mukul's father told Cricbuzz.
Duleep's vision for his son was not accidental, it arose from watching the great players of cricket years ago and realizing the importance of the game in India. what did he see Sachin Tendulkar I am achieving this only by playing for the country and decided to make Mukul a cricketer in future.
He recalled, “I have seen players like Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar on television. We used to play cricket with very limited facilities in our village. I remember hearing that Tendulkar had a Ferrari worth about ₹1 crore, and had to pay the same amount in taxes.”
He said, “It made me realize how much money and respect there is in cricket. From that moment I decided that my children would become cricketers.”
Coming from a humble background in Rajasthan, Dalip ensured that Mukul's journey was based on discipline and hard work rather than shortcuts.
“I trained Mukul hard for 10-12 years. I used to take him to the ground in the morning and evening, make him work out and take care of his diet. It is very important to become an athlete before becoming a cricketer, so I focused on that first,” he concluded.
Mukul first caught the attention of scouts during the Under-23 List A tournament, where he scored 617 runs in just nine matches, with a record 39 sixes, the most in the competition.
Those numbers translated seamlessly into the IPL, as he announced himself in style against KKR with a blistering 54* off just 24 balls, including seven sky-scraping sixes.
