Green is now ready to take the ball for the Knight Riders as Cricket Australia earlier confirmed that he will play as a specialist batsman in the early stages of the tournament while he will take 10-12 days to increase his bowling load. After so much time has passed, it is expected that Green is now ready to bowl in matches.
CA said on March 30, “Cameron has a lower back injury which is being managed but will require him to stay away from bowling for a short period of time. Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling load in India with a view to a return in approximately 10-12 days' time.”
Green's lack of bowling has been a topic of discussion due to his absence from the Knight Riders attack at times. Mustafizur Rahman had to withdraw from the tournament due to BCCI orders, while Harshit Rana and Akash Deep are out for the entire season due to injury. Furthermore, Mathiesha Pathirana is yet to receive fitness clearance and no objection certificate from Sri Lanka Cricket.
Green's performance with the bat has also not been good and he has scored 18, 2 and 4 in the three matches played so far. Batting at No. 3, he has yet to instill confidence, looking shaky and unsteady. He was signed by Knight Riders for a huge fee of Rs 25.20 crore, making him the most expensive foreign player in the history of IPL. His hefty price tag and his lack of form have raised eyebrows, with fans and experts alike criticizing him.
He made his IPL debut with Mumbai Indians in 2023 and performed brilliantly with the bat, scoring 452 runs in the entire season as the team reached the playoffs. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he scored his first IPL century that season and took six wickets with the ball. He was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2024 season, where he failed to perform and managed only 255 runs. However, he took 10 wickets with the ball.
