On Tuesday, April 7, Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 27 runs in a rain-interrupted 11-over-a-side contest at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Vaibhav Suryavanshi Set the stage on fire once again with another amazing display of ball striking.
Suryavanshi hit great bowler Jasprit Bumrah for a six on the very first ball he bowled on Tuesday. Three balls later, the Bihar batsman once again cleared the fence, surprising the cricket world. He ultimately scored 39 runs while remaining at the crease for 14 balls.
After the match, the great Harbhajan Singh praised Suryavanshi and how he was putting one of the best bowlers in the world under pressure. The former India off-spinner backed the left-handed batsman to rule world cricket.
“A 15-year-old kid was up against Jasprit Bumrah, the No. 1 bowler in the world. And the very first ball, a little kid, he hits him for a six. The best players sweat against Bumrah, but this kid has shown that he plays the ball, not the bowler. Bumrah is known for comebacks. He bowled slow. But that too, he picked it up well and Hitting a six over mid-wicket, this guy has shown that even though he is not a bowler, he is ready and here to rule,” he said on his YouTube channel.
He said, “Does anyone play like this at the age of 15? People start growing up at this age, but this boy is already in the category of big players. Mumbai had three strong bowlers and all three were taken into attack early on. This is where Jaiswal and Suryavanshi broke MI's confidence.”
Jaiswal was incredible: Harbhajan
Suryavanshi's opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal also received praise from Harbhajan. The southpaw batsman scored an unbeaten 77 runs off 32 balls to help Royals post 150/3 in 11 overs. He hit 10 fours and four sixes during his stormy innings.
He said, “Jaiswal was unbelievable. He batted brilliantly from the first ball till the end. This year he is batting like a senior batsman. I am very happy to see our youngsters taking responsibility. There is no dearth of ability. The background he has come from and where he is today shows that hard work is the only solution. He has gone through a period when he had nothing. Today he has everything, but he has kept cricket as his priority.”
Rajasthan eventually won the match by 27 runs after restricting Mumbai to 123/9 in 11 overs. Nandre Berger, Sandeep Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets each for the inaugural champions.
