Former Zimbabwean cricketer turned expert Pommy Mbangwa has given this assurance Jasprit Bumrah IPL 2026 will pick up steam after a quiet start to the season.
Bumrah has not taken any wickets in the season so far, but has been economical with his bowling throughout. He has bowled eight overs in the two matches and given away 35 runs and 21 runs respectively. Mbangwa has supported them to return to baseline with their performances.
“He was so impressive in the first game that he was able to turn the game around when they were being harassed from all sides. Often he would not take wickets but would rather do more dotting in an over. He would have one over where he would score 4 or 5 runs in a game of 10 or 15 per over. And he would not be able to win two games without performing so well. He was not so good in Delhi, and it is not a ground he likes because he does not perform well there. Bumrah was the best bowler in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, taking the joint-highest position in the tournament with 14 wickets. He performed brilliantly in the semi-finals and final and later won the Player of the Match award with a blistering spell of 4/15.

Mbangwa also praised the 15-year-old player Vaibhav SuryavanshiWho have started the 2026 season in the same way as 2025 before the Rajasthan Royals match against Mumbai Indians. In the Royals' opening game against Chennai Super Kings, he scored a half-century in 15 balls, the third fastest in the IPL. Mbangwa saw improvement in Vaibhav's intent and control of shots.
“Watching the first game, despite his antics last season, he seems to have improved a bit. He seems to have more control. Last year, without any expectations, he just went. This time, in both innings, there was control, which is fantastic to see,” Mbangwa said.
Rajasthan Royals have come in as an in-form team, having won their first two matches. Mumbai, on the other hand, won their opening game but were unable to defeat Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
