Sunrisers Hyderabad have found themselves on the wrong side of yet another controversial moment in IPL 2026.
Lucknow Super Giants defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets on 5 April. Needing one run off the last two balls, Rishabh Pant edged Jaydev Unadkat over the fielder at mid-off, ending the match with a four. The ball is hit back onto the field of play by LSG Avesh KhanWhoever hit it away from his bat, it seemed that the ball had not crossed the boundary.
Although this was unnecessary, there was no fielder stationed there at the time, and it was not an attempt to prevent the fielder from blocking the boundary. Due to the claim that the ball had not crossed the ropes, SRH fans on social media were furious, arguing that the umpires and match officials should have applied MCC Law 20.1 (Dead Ball) and Law 41 (Unfair Play), and should have awarded five penalty runs to SRH.
As per Cricbuzz report, Sunrisers Hyderabad is ready to report this incident along with other incidents in previous games to the BCCI. This is also expected to include Phil Salt's controversial catch of Heinrich Klaasen in the opening match against RCB. Klaasen was declared out, while footage showed the RCB player touching the boundary cushion with his shoes.
In their game against Kolkata Knight Riders, Varun Chakravarthy's diving catch at the mid-wicket boundary to dismiss Abhishek Sharma became the talk of the town as the ball appeared to touch the grass before landing in Varun's hands.
Sunrisers Hyderabad played their first match at home against Lucknow Super Giants. They have played three matches, winning against the Knight Riders, but losing two against the Royal Challengers and Super Giants. They will play against Punjab Kings on April 11 at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur.
