Delhi Capitals have won back-to-back matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 and are currently placed at No. 2 on the points table behind Rajasthan Royals. On Saturday, April 5, the Capitals defeated five-time champions Mumbai Indians by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Whereas Akshar Patel's The rotation of bowling resources in the match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians impressed Aakash Chopra, he explained about the error committed by his opposite number Suryakumar Yadav.
Chopra praised Axar for showing courage in leaving Mukesh Kumar out of the attack for the matchup, despite the Bengal fast bowler taking two wickets in his first spell. However, talking about Suryakumar leading Mumbai Indians in the absence of Hardik Pandya, Chopra mentioned that dropping Deepak Chahar from the attack after two overs inside the power play was not the right decision, especially as the right-arm pacer is known for his effectiveness with the new ball.
Chopra said in a video shared on his YouTube channel, “Axar Patel's captaincy was absolutely excellent. Mukesh Kumar took two wickets and then he was stopped because there was an excellent matchup. A left-handed batsman got out and he came in quickly himself, and then took Vipraj Nigam. He finished the powerplay with Lungi Ngidi, and after that he did not bring Mukesh Kumar in because it was not required. The way he used his resources, he was impeccable.”
He said, “Can't say the same about Suryakumar Yadav or Mumbai Indians. Deepak Chahar took one wicket. He is a new bowler and you made him bowl only two overs. When Mukesh was stopped after two overs, it was a good choice, but when you stopped Deepak after two overs in the same match, it was a bad decision because there was no matchup. Go with Deepak Chahar. He is not useful to you in the death overs in any situation.”
They have given Player of the Match performances three times in a row: Aakash Chopra and Sameer Rizvi
Chopra praised Sameer Rizvi, who scored a brilliant 90 off 51 balls to help Capitals chase down the 163-run target in just 18.1 overs with six wickets in hand.
He said, “Let's talk about Sameer Riji. What a boy. How well he has been playing. I think if we look at last year, he has performed player of the match three times in a row. He started in Delhi from where he left it in Lucknow.”
The cricketer-turned-specialist was particularly impressed by the composure with which he played against renowned bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner.
Chopra said, “Bumrah and Mitchell Santner were also here, but the composure with which he played, he starts slow, gives himself time and it shows maturity. Then he bats till the end. If Bumrah is in the opposition and you play easily despite that, it says a lot.”
