IPL 2026: 'CSK should pray this thrashing doesn't happen' – Former India batsman ahead of RCB vs CSK clash

East India and Chennai Super Kings Batsman Subramaniam Badrinath has made a worrying prediction about Chennai Super Kings ahead of the much-awaited clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

CSK are coming into the game after two losses in their first two matches. They were comprehensively beaten by Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati and were unable to defend 210 against Punjab Kings in Chepauk.

RCB, on the other hand, have played just one game but have shown the dominance expected from the defending champions. Badrinath believes that Chennai can be easily defeated, as RCB look like a “well-oiled machine”.

“CSK finished at the bottom last year and are last this season too. All these seasons, I never said this, but still I would say – RCB is definitely the favourite. RCB is actually the clear favorite against CSK. I would be surprised if CSK does well against RCB. CSK should just pray that it doesn't lose because RCB looks at a different level. They are a good machine. Without Hazlewood Also, they look like a very well-balanced team,” said Badrinath. Said on his YouTube channel.

He further said that one possible factor that provides CSK a chance is the return of the South African batsman dewald brevis. Brewis, who was signed as an injury replacement in 2025, was a revelation for the Super Kings in the latter stages. Despite finishing last, Brewis' 225 runs at a strike rate of 180 were certainly a positive. Brewis has been ruled out of the first two matches due to a side strain and his participation against RCB is not yet confirmed.

Badrinath said, “CSK's only hope against RCB is that Dewald Brevis gets fit again. It looks like a big miss now. If Brevis is fit and playing, then that looks to be the only chance for CSK against RCB. CSK doesn't need to win the cup, but should at least compete. CSK can't win through proper cricketing logic, so hopefully they can win through some magic.”

Chennai Super Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 5 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
