Akshar Patel, DC Captain
“In T20 cricket, it is all about flexibility. If you have players who can play anywhere, it is good. We are open-minded. If the wicket suits a player, we send them.” [On selecting Sameer ahead of Ashutosh as Impact Player] You get to know the players when you practice together. Ashutosh is batting very well. But if I am facing this kind of problem in selecting players then it is a good thing. [What’s the secret behind the wins?] It's important to take one game at a time. If you are winning, it is important to keep the momentum going. IPL is a long tournament and it is important to continue the winning streak. We will ensure that we do not repeat the mistake we made last year.”
Suryakumar Yadav, MI captain
“I think it was a good wicket. We expected it to be a little slow, but still from a batting point of view we were a little behind by 15-20 runs, but I don't want to take any credit from the bowlers and their batsmen batted really well in the second innings. (On Rizvi) Absolutely, I mean someone like that coming in at 7 for 2 and batting the way he did, I think a lot of credit goes to him. He should never have had that happen. We came into the game, we tried our best to follow everything in the bowling department, but we could not come back. You just keep batting, understand the stats, what's good, what's been good here, but we felt 180-185 was a good score. We fell short by 15-20 runs. I think me and Naman, we both got out at the wrong time, otherwise we would have at least been on par. I mean absolutely, look, there will be days when you try and it doesn't work, but we'll go back to the drawing board, work hard and come back in the next few days.
Sameer Rizvi, Player of the Match
“I have worked really hard on my weaknesses. I used to have some problems against fast bowlers, but I worked on it last year and now I am getting the fruits of it. (Mindset coming to bat?) I try to play as per the situation. In both the innings I have played, I took some time. I tried to see the ball till the end. And it paid off. When you take some time, things become easier for you. (How important is the IPL?) Is it?) This is an important time for any player, because if you perform well here you can get more opportunities, so I will try to continue the good work.
