Has shown full confidence in Gujarat Titans (GT) assistant coach Ashish Kapoor jos buttler To leave his poor form behind and show his true form in this season's Indian Premier League (IPL). This comes before they take on 2022 champions Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, April 4.
Butler's form in the IPL has not been good by his high standards. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored just 87 runs in eight matches at an average of 10.87 in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Kapoor, however, has no doubts about Buttler's quality and believes the current poor spell is just a blip, which can happen to even the best players in the world.
“He is a top player, and there is no doubt about that. I don't think you guys also doubt that. Yes, he had a bad 1-1.5 months, that can happen to any player, and it has happened to most of the top-class players, including Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, who have had such patches. But these players always come back,” Kapoor was quoted as saying on NDTV.
The 35-year-old showed glimpses of his previous form in his opening game against Punjab Kings, scoring 38 runs off 35 balls, an innings that was studded with three fours and two sixes.
“Now, he will be really keen because such players take a lot of pride in performing well. You can see the way he batted in the last match too, he was trying to apply himself and want to make a statement that he is back in form. For such players, it is an innings thing to get back into form and I think he is on the right track, so there should be no problem.”
Butler has been one of the greatest foreign players to grace the IPL. Last season, his first season in GT colours, he scored 538 runs at an average of 59.77, while striking out 163, helping his team finish third in the standings.
