In an interesting moment during match number 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Rohit Sharma It took a clever move to trick Delhi Capitals (DC) into wasting a review against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 4.
The incident occurred during the ninth over when left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav was bowling to Rohit while Suryakumar Yadav was at the non-striker end. On the fifth ball, Kuldeep bowled the ball outside the leg stump and Rohit tried to make an aggressive shot. The ball seemed to be taking a deviation, leading to a strong appeal from wicketkeeper KL Rahul.
Rohit's immediate reaction further escalated the drama which prompted DC to take action. He started walking carelessly as if he had taken the edge of the ball, making it look like he was out. This prompted DC captain Axar Patel to opt for the Decision Review System (DRS), who was convinced by both the appeal and Rohit's body language. However, replays showed that the ball had only touched Rohit's pads and there was no contact with the bat. As a result, DC lost a valuable review while Rohit remained at the crease, cleverly deceiving the fielding side.
Talking about the match, DC won the toss and elected to field, with the same playing XI that won against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on the back of a brilliant innings from Sameer Rizvi. MI, on the other hand, suffered a blow as Hardik Pandya missed the game due to illness.
In his absence, Suryakumar took over the captaincy, with Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner and Corbin Bosch coming into the eleven. MI had earlier started their campaign with a win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium thanks to brilliant innings from Rohit and Ryan Rickelton, giving them their first win in the tournament.
Both teams are entering the competition on the back of a win, aiming to maintain the momentum and add two important points to their tally.
