Sarfaraz Khan MA was only at the crease for a few overs during the Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings clash in Match 7 of IPL 2026 at the Chidambaram Stadium, but what unfolded during his short time in between was absolute carnage. Sarfaraz played a stormy inning of 32 runs, which included six fours and a big four.
Sarfaraz, who came in to bat at No. 6, wasted no time in getting ahead and started taking on the PBKS bowlers all around the park right from the start. The Mumbai-born player batted at an impressive strike rate of 266.67 and produced a stellar performance in Chepauk as the five-time champions managed to post a challenging score of 209 for 5 on the board while batting first on home soil.
Sarfaraz was out after a stormy innings of 32 off 12, but not before he ensured aggressive action and did not let the PBKS bowlers stop the flow of runs. After his short stay at the crease, CSK fans, who are known to be very loyal, took to social media to compare the cricketer with former batsman Ambati Rayudu.

Sarfaraz Khan has lost so much weight from his body, this boy has worked very hard. Hopefully, Ajit Agarkar will not ignore him in the next test teamβ€οΈππ» pic.twitter.com/wtTMIJ2uuS

In an attempt to move forward and increase speed, Sarfaraz ultimately became the victim Vishak VijaykumarThe fast bowler was handed his second wicket of the night. Vishak reflected on his thoughts after the innings. The pacer also became the first player of the season to receive the Purple Cap.
“Not really, but it's challenging. As long as you're enjoying the challenge, it's a good wicket. The slower ones are coming in good. It's a good wicket. 10 runs, we've given away extras but with our batting, we should have got it. I was OK, I bowled in quite good areas, trying to hit my length first and then trying to mix it up (in the end). The way we batted in the first game, though, we batted in the middle. Lost a few wickets… Everyone is looking good and hopefully we can get these runs easily. Hopefully I can continue this form,” as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
At the time of writing, PBKS have already scored 103 runs for the loss of two wickets, exactly half the target. Meanwhile, CSK need to either take eight wickets or defend 107 runs off the next sixty balls to win their first points of the season.
