Delhi Capitals Despite early troubles, they defeated Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in Match 5 of the 2026 Indian Premier League at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
When invited to bat, Lucknow Super Giants were all out for just 141 runs. LSG never got going in their innings and kept losing wickets at crucial intervals. Mitchell Marsh's 35, laced with crisp shots around the ground, and Abdul Samad's rearguard innings of 36 helped them post 141. This innings also saw the unfamiliar sight of Rishabh Pant opening the batting, but he too could not progress and was out after scoring just seven runs due to an unfortunate run out.
Delhi bowlers performed brilliantly, taking regular wickets and keeping Lucknow's batsmen at bay. The bowlers included T Natarajan and Lungi Ngidi, who took three wickets each. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav were crucial with their spin, stifling LSG's momentum in the middle overs and dismissing LSG batsmen in the process. Kuldeep got two wickets and Akshar got one wicket.
In reply, Lucknow Super Giants bowled with full force, reducing Delhi Capitals to 33/4 at the end of the powerplay. Mohammed Shami dismissed KL Rahul on the very first ball of the innings as he sliced one to third man. Returning Mohsin Khan dismissed Nitish Rana, while Prince Yadav dismissed Pathum Nissanka and captain Akshar Patel for a duck.
Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs then came together and put on an unbeaten 119-run partnership as they withstood the pressure and attacked the Lucknow bowlers when they made mistakes with their lengths. He ensured that Delhi did not lose any more wickets and finished the game with 17 balls remaining. Rizvi remained unbeaten on 70 off just 47 balls, while Stubbs, playing mainly in the second innings, remained unbeaten on 39.
